AUDITION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

-
Is experience required to audition?
There is no experience required to audition for shows at RCT. We welcome actors of all experience levels to attend our auditions!

-
Do I need to sign up for an audition slot or can I just show up?
We encourage all actors to sign up for an audition slot to help us schedule our audition day and keep things moving quickly. If for some reason you are not able to sign up for a slot, you are welcome to show up at auditions and we will try to fit you in as soon as the schedule allows, though there may be a wait.

-
What do I need to prepare for auditions?
Material for auditions varies depending on the show and director. Our sign-up forms always provide detailed information about what actors should prepare. For musicals, it is often a 1-minute song from the show or in a similar style. For plays, it is often short scenes or monologues from the script. If specific audition material is being requested, it will be linked on the sign-up form.

-
How long do auditions take?
The amount of time an audition will take varies greatly from show to show. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early for your audition to sign in and fill out paperwork. We do our best to utilize everyone’s time carefully and will let you know when you are done and free to leave. Auditions may be as quick as 10 minutes, or take up to 1-2 hours if there are multiple parts to the audition (such as singing, dancing, reading, etc.).

-
I didn’t hear anything about a callback. Does this mean I’m not cast?
The needs of every show are different, but some directors will hold callback auditions if they would like to see specific actors a second time. Receiving a callback audition is not a guarantee that you will be cast. Not every actor is needed for callbacks, and often actors are cast in shows without a callback audition.

-
When will I know if I’ve been cast or not?
We do our best to notify actors as quickly as possible about casting decisions, but sometimes the process takes time. Typically you should expect to hear back from us within 1-2 weeks of your audition.

-
I can’t make it to the in-person auditions. What are my options?
If you are interested in auditioning but are not available during the scheduled audition times, please email info@RochesterCivicTheatre.org. Some directors are willing to accept video auditions, though an in-person audition is always preferred.

-
Do actors at RCT get paid?
All of the actors in Rochester Civic Theatre’s productions are volunteers. We do offer some benefits to the actors in our shows, such as complimentary tickets to the production.
